A Powerpoint Presentation
During this assignment you will
- Explore the features of powerpoint
- Create a presentation using powerpoint
Special note: if you are going to prepare your presentation on the
Windows NT stations in Rm 226 math, remember to either bring a zip disk
so that you can store/retreive your work. You might be able to get away
with a simple diskette, if your file is not too large (powerpoint
will encourage you to make your presentations quite complex, which
usually require more memory than is available on a typical diskette).
Description
- First, take a moment (a long one)
to put together a presentation theme. Some
suggestions: your "sales" figures from the Word/Excel homework; or your
"thesis", which you worked on in a previous assignment; or if you happen to
have an impending presentation/seminar/lecture on some other subject,
you may also take this opportunity and turn the assignment into a real
slide show.
- We expect you to prepare at least 8 slides
- There are some ready-made presentation formats in powerpoint, which
you will need to find and explore. However, use only the templates
or your own custom slides should be used for the presentation;
not the auto content wizard stuff. Some template directories are loaded,
while others may be skimpy. You can also find tonnes of templates on the
Microsoft/powerpoint web site, a repository of all sorts of nifty
powerpoint stuff, including sound.
- Take some time to explore the capabilities of Powerpoint,
especially with regards to its compatibility with drawing software,
equation editors (if your system has them), excel, Word, html.
- You are not expected to use all of the above software packages in
your finished assignments, but should include some of these
sophisticated features in some way.
Instructions
- Your presentation of 8 or so slides should be made into a slide
show. You need to rehearse and record the timings as well as the slide
to slide transition.
- The process of importing Word/Excel pictures and objects, as well
as other types of graphics is a relatively easy affair. We expect you to
exploit this capability in your presentation. However, do not expect it
to work smoothly. In order to avoid disappointments ALWAYS add one thing
at a time, save the file, and then try it out. This is true for anything
involving software.
- You should hand in a hard copy with the summary
presentation: this hard copy MUST be only a couple of pages long, so you
need to find (on your own) the slide sorter and the
option under the print menu that will put
all your slides in a few pages. This feature is not only good for
getting a quick summary, but also to create handouts in presentations.
