Comments on the final
-
There are 11 problems. Nine of them are worth 20 points each. The last
two are worth 10 points each.
-
There is a question from section 7.1 involving substitution.
-
There is an optimization problem that requires setting up the equation
(no surprise).
-
Students need to know the area formulas for a circle, rectangle, and
triangle.
-
Students need to know the circumference of a circle and perimeter of a
rectangle.
-
Any other geometry formulas such as volume will be given.
-
One question has a True/ False format.
-
Hyperbolic functions are not on the exam this semester. But all other
functions types are fair game including absolute value and piecewise
functions.
-
Students need to pay attention to which function is given (f vs. f '
vs. f ").
-
Students must show all work to get credit. Students with the TI-89
need to remember this.
-
Students should not use approximation techniques unless specifically
told to do so.
-
Answers should be in exact form. For example, if the answer is ln2,
the students should not write 0.693.
If the answer is cos(pi/6), we would expect (sqrt(3))/2. Students need
to know the trig values of the special angles.
-
Trig problems should be done in radian mode, not degree mode.
