Get Help Applying for REUs - Finding Programs and CVs Workshop
Location: ENR2 S210
Presenter: Jason Aubrey, The University of Arizona, Department of Mathematics

Are you considering applying for summer research opportunities? NSF sponsored Research Experiences for Undergraduates are fantastic programs. They are 8-10 week programs that take place at sites around the US, pay a 4-5k stipend in addition to paying for housing and travel. The Math Center will be hosting a series of three workshops to assist you in applying for these programs.

In this workshop we will research REU programs and work on our CVs in small groups. Each participant will create a spreadsheet of programs to apply to containing due dates, required application materials, and a link to submission instructions. REUs typically want students to submit a CV. In this workshop we will work in small groups on creating and refining CVs. Participants will come away from this workshop with a better CV. Students will also identify letter writers if they haven't already.

Students are encouraged to come to all of the workshops, but are welcome to attend individual workshops even if they cannot come to all of them. The workshops are intended for Math/Data Science majors and minors, but majors and minors intending to apply to REUs in areas other than math or statistics are welcome to attend the workshops. Please note that NSF REU programs are typically restricted to US citizens and permanent residents. However the workshops may be useful for international students who wish to get help on polishing their CVs and personal statements for other programs.
