On Z_2 harmonic spinors

Mathematics Colloquium

On Z_2 harmonic spinors
Series: Mathematics Colloquium
Location: Zoom Meeting
Presenter: Rafe Mazzeo, Stanford

While multivalued holomorphic functions have been of interest since the early days of complex analysis, multivalued harmonic functions and various nonlinear generalizations have attained importance only more recently. I will talk about one such generalization, the so-called Z_2 harmonic spinors, which were introduced in the past several years by Taubes as a tool in gauge theory.  I will discuss how these arise and then focus on their analytic nature, as solutions of a sort of free boundary problem.
