Compactification: metrics and analysis

Compactification: metrics and analysis

Series: Mathematics Colloquium
Location: Math 501
Presenter: Richard Melrose, MIT

I will start by describing the standard compactifications of real and complex vector spaces and of hyperbolic space. From this one can see the desirable properties in the real and complex settings. Then I will consider the compactifications of semi-simple Lie groups, including some recent results, and analytic consequences of these constructions including the identification of the Harish-Chandra modules.

Refreshments will be served in the Math Commons Room at 3:30 PM
