Math 105 (Bayly) Fall 2006: HOMEWORK 1: Due Friday 1 September 2006

Chapter 3, beginning on page 111:  Problems 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 24, 30, 32, 40, and 82 (don’t do 50 after all!)  Also I asked you to write a paragraph or two about how it could help these procedures if the people are allowed to communicate and negotiate.  For example, in divide-and-choose with 2 people, if the chooser tells the divider what they like, the divider might be able to arrange the cut so that he gets more of what s/he likes while the chooser does not have to give up any of what s/he likes.  But is this really possible?  Write down your thoughts, do a little Math.
