Announcement of the discussion group
``On the Atlases'',
led by Gerhard Hiss
The discussion group on Monday, November 2, will focus on Atlases.
This particularly refers to online libraries, either standing alone
collections on websites, like, for example, Rob Wilson's "ATLAS of
Finite Group Representations", or as parts of larger systems, like,
for example, the libraries of character tables in GAP.
The discussion will start with a short introduction by me on the
existing Atlases I know of.
Please contact me (gerhard.hiss@math.rwth-aachen.de) in case you
are aware of such an Atlas which should be introduced in the session,
or if you wish particular issues to be discussed. These could concern
the design, maintenance or future of such an Atlas, as well as the
mathematical process of constructing the data of an Atlas in the
first place. Receiving appropriate credit for such a venture could
also be part of the discussion.
We might also want to address Serre's comments on the "ATLAS of
Finite Groups" by Conway et al.
