Homework Assignments

Text: Linear Algebra by David C. Lay, for details see the resource page of the course.

Homework: even though homework will not be collected, all students are expected to work on the homework assignments. Some of the homework problems assigned will ask for the use of a computer algebra system such as MATLAB. You can download MATLAB using the University's site license . Links to various MATLAB tutorials can be found on the resource page of the course.

Tests: There will be three tests and a final exam. The tests are worth 100 points each and the final exam is worth 200 points. The first test is scheduled for Thursday, September 18; CHANGE: This first test has been postponed due to the weather conditions and it is now scheduled for September 25. The second test is scheduled for Thursday, October 23; and the the third test is scheduled for Thursday, December 4. The final exam will take place on Thursday, the 18th of December, from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. All the tests and the final exam are given in the usual classroom.

Quizzes : there will be (tentatively) 10 pop-up quizzes each worth 10 points.

Grading policy : In total there will be 600 points. Your total score will be converted into a percentage score. The cutoffs of 80%, 70%, 60%, and 50% for A, B, C, and D are guaranteed, but the cutoffs may be lowered if a lower overall class average warrants it.

Attendance: Students are expected to attend every scheduled class and to be familiar with the University Class Attendance policy as it appears in the General Catalog. It is the student's responsibility to keep informed of any announcements, syllabus adjustments or policy changes made during scheduled classes. Students are expected to behave in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the Code of Academic Integrity. The guiding principle of academic integrity is that a student's submitted work must be the student's own. University Policies can be found at http://deanofstudents.arizona.edu/codeofacademicintegrity and http://deanofstudents.arizona.edu/policiesandcodes/studentcodeofconduct .

Students with disabilities: If you anticipate issues related to the format or requirements of this course, please meet with your instructor to discuss ways to ensure your full participation in the course. If you determine that formal, disability-related accommodations are necessary, it is very important that you be registered with Disability Resources (621-3268; drc.arizona.edu). You should notify your instructor of your eligibility for reasonable accommodations by Thursday, September 4. You and your instructor can then plan how best to coordinate your accommodations.
