Week 17

  • Final exam on Friday, May 15. The exam is from 8 to 10am and will take place in our regular classroom.

Week 16 (Current Week)

  1. Due Wednesday, May 6: Problems #1 p. 388 and 5 p. 429. Note that the systems considered in the second problem are the same as those listed in the first one. Use PPLANE to check your answers.
  2. Quiz on Wednesday, May 6 on the above problems.
  3. Discussion forums: Participate in one or more of the Making Connections D2L discussion forums. They will close on May 6 at midnight.
  4. Optional discussion forum: You may also participate in the D2L discussion forum entitled The limit of a function. This forum is for extra credit and will close on May 15 at midnight.

Week 15

  1. Due Monday, April 27: Problems #3(b) & 3(c) page 349, #1(f) & 1(j) page 375 of the Differential Equations book. In the last two problems, D means d/dt.
  2. Quiz on Monday, April 27 on the above problems.
  3. Due Wednesday, April 29: Work in teams of 2 or 3 students and solve the following differential equation (1 + x) y'' - 2 y' + (1 - x) y = x - 2 - x2. Your work will be graded and will count towards the homework grade for Week 14.

Week 14

  1. Test on Monday, April 20. This test will cover series solutions to differential equations, complex numbers, linear dependence and independence, as well as second order linear differential equations.
    Review Problems (2nd order linear ODEs only). See homework assignment (week 10) for problems on series solutions. See notes for problems on complex numbers, linear independence, and spring-mass systems.

Week 13

  1. Due Friday, April 17: Complete the WebAssign assignment called Second Order Linear ODEs II.
  2. Quiz on Friday, April 17.

Week 12

  1. Due Friday, April 10: Complete the WebAssign assignment called Second Order Linear ODEs.

Week 10

  1. Reading assignment: Re-read Chapter 1 of the Differential Equations book. Also read Section 3.5 and Appendix A3. (This reading assignment is not associated with a D2L discussion forum.)
  2. Due Tuesday, March 24: Problems in the Differential Equations book:
    • Problems # 1 p. 24, 3 p. 7, 5 p. 11, and 3 p. 20 (in that order).
    • Problem # 1 p. 117.
    • Problem # 3 p. 117.
  3. Quiz on Friday, March 27, on the above material.

Week 9

  1. Quiz on Friday, March 13. In preparation for the quiz, review all of the assignments on Sequences and Series. These problems are grouped in the assignment called Review - Sequences & Series. This assignment is open until the end of the semester and will not count towards your homework score.

Week 8

  1. Test on Friday, March 6. This test will cover sequences and series, including Taylor series.
  2. Due Friday, March 6: Complete the WebAssign assignment called Series III.
  3. Quiz on Wednesday, March 4.

  1. Due Tuesday, February 17: Online discussion on Learning and Scientific Reasoning, by L. Bao et al. The D2L forum will close on Tuesday at midnight.
