SWRIMS HIGH SCHOOL WORKSHOPS

Introduction to Cryptography for High School Teachers

Saturday, 27 March 1999, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Mathematics Building

Workshop schedule:

This is an adaptation of the workshop we have offered for students in the past. We'll learn the basics of cryptography: who uses codes, what are the various kinds of substitution ciphers, and why are they insecure? We will place particular emphasis on ways to integrate cryptography into the standard high school algebra curriculum; for example, linear equations and matrices can be used to encode secret messages! In addition, we will be giving away 10 TI-83 calculators at this workshop!

This workshop is being organized by Pat Deeren and Jennifer Smith, with help from Aaron Ekstrom, Laura Kondek, and Judith Reed.

Due to lack of interest, this workshop has been CANCELLED.
