The College of Science caught up with Hamdan to learn more about his experiences at the University of Arizona and what is on the horizon after graduation.
Why did you choose to study Statistics & Data Science?
I’ve always been curious about numbers and problem-solving. Growing up with a mom who taught math, I naturally picked up her love for math. As I got older, statistics and data science felt like the perfect mix of math and the future; therefore, choosing this major was an easy decision.
Tell us about a class or research project you really enjoyed.
I really enjoyed my internship project at the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center. It was my first time working with real-world data, and it showed me how much data drives decision-making. I also built strong connections with experienced professionals who supported me and made me feel included.
What is one specific memory from your time at U of A you’ll cherish forever?
One memory I’ll always cherish is studying abroad in South Korea with UA Abroad. Even though UA itself has been amazing, Korea opened my eyes even more to how big the world really is. It turned me into someone who’s always ready to travel, meet new people, and live like a local instead of just being a tourist. That experience changed the way I see everything.
What are you most proud of having accomplished in your time at U of A?
Studying abroad at UA is what I’m most proud of. Being here across the world from my family pushed me to my limits and shaped who I am today. I’m grateful for the friends I met who always supported me, and for the professors who guided me and built long-lasting relationships with me. And above all, I am and will always be grateful to my parents and siblings. No matter what I do in life, I could never give back to them as much as they’ve given me.
What is next for you after graduation?
After graduation, I’m excited to dive deeper into AI and machine learning. My goal is to join a major data-driven company where I can grow, build experience, and eventually create my own path in the field.
