The University of Arizona

UTA Program for Math & Stats Majors - Application

Application process

The application deadline for the Spring 2024 UTA program is 11:59pm, Sunday, December 3rd, 2023.  (All application materials, including the instructor reference, should be submitted within this deadline for full consideration.)

  1. All UTAs will be required to enroll in the UTA seminar (MATH 491, worth 1 credit). The tentative meeting time for the seminar is Tuesdays from 5:30-6:30pm (MST); this might be changed to a different time (provided we are able to accommodate everyone's schedules).

  2. Complete the application form; you will need to upload a current resume/CV within the form.

Please be aware of the university’s COVID-19 guidance and be sure to stay up-to-date on any changes: https://covid19.arizona.edu/prevention-health/covid-19-symptoms-prevention

  3. A reference from a UA math instructor is required.  Ask your recommender to complete the brief online form at https://www.math.arizona.edu/academics/undergrads/opportunities/utas/reference

  4. Recommended: If you have found a faculty member willing to supervise your assistantship, then ask them to provide a short email to confirm that they are willing to be your mentor. The mentor should submit the Mentor Form. Otherwise, the UTA coordinators will match you with a faculty mentor.

  5. We will review the applications on Monday, December 4th, and we will let you know by 11:59pm if you are needed for an interview to provide extra information. Interviews (if deemed necessary) will be 10-15 minutes long, and they will will be held on Wednesday, December 6th (last day of classes, timing to be coordinated).

  6. Some time in late December or early January, you will be notified with an official letter of offer or rejection for the position.
